Sixth Grade News
February 10, 2012
In Science,
students will spend all week creating their Famous Scientist Prezis.
They will also use their regularly scheduled computer literacy class
for this task, too. The Prezi phase will continue through
February 28th. Mid-week, students will select the day of their
oral presentations that begin in March. The science room will be
open during lunch all next week for students who would like extra time
to meet their daily Prezi goals. Finally, students are encouraged
to continue the Writing Paragraphs from Note Sheets homework assignment
this weekend (choose one note sheet and write 1-2 paragraphs combining
those notes into a logical paragraph(s). The multi-day homework
assignment is due Wednesday, February 15th. See the science moodle for
more details!
In English, the sixth graders will be focusing their etymological minds on root words, with a quiz on Thursday and Fictionary on Friday.
Next week in Math,
students will continue their study of proportions and how they relate
to real-life situations. They will be writing their own proportion word
problems, solving them, and sharing the problems with the class. The
quiz on proportions will take place on Thursday, 2/16/12. Reminder: All
quizzes are returned within a few days and students earning below 100%
are required to make corrections and get a parent signature. Please
contact me if this is not happening. Have a wonderful February Break!
In Social Studies,
students have formulated research questions on topics related to the
Columbian Exchange, have written research questions, and have started
to collect information. Next week, they will analyze
the cause and effects of their topics in regard to the Old
and New Worlds. First drafts of their research essays are due on Friday, February 17.
In French, we will start
the week in French with a review of lesson 4B, and the lesson 4B quiz
will be Tuesday. We will then do some in-class preparation for
the "Grand Concours", which will be on Thursday. All sixth
graders who take French participate in the "Grand Concours", which is a
national French contest put on by the American Association of Teachers
of French. There is a listening comprehension portion and a
grammar/vocabulary/culture portion of the contest. The students
have a review packet that they may work on if they wish to do so.
The students should bring two #2 pencils with erasers and a reading
book to the contest.
Have a wonderful weekend!
