Sixth Grade News
March 5, 2010 In English, 6th grader students will become word sleuths and learn some word “decoding” skills and how words get “defined.” Ms. Sylvester will be handing out progress reports sometime next week as well. In Math, we will continue our exploration of geometry by working with more complex transformations in class and on the computer. Towards the end of the week, we will begin to summarize and review the work we have done in geometry in preparation for a unit test the following week. Since pi day, 3/14, is on a Sunday this year, we celebrate the number pi on Friday, 3/12. In Social Studies, students will be adding artifacts to their integrated brain portfolios at the beginning of the week. Students will then begin a Colonial Newspaper project on the 13 original colonies working together to show an understanding of the ideas and events that united and divided both the states and the 3 regions of early United States history. In Science, thanks to all the parents and grandparents who were part of our audience during the Famous Scientist presentations. A total of 88 adults made time in their busy schedules to listen to student presentations. On Wednesday, there will be a quiz on research, technology and presentation. A study guide was handed to each student today. Students will begin a chemistry unit on Thursday. Basic concepts will be introduced and safety skills will be reviewed in anticipation of the experiments students will be conducting. In French next week, we will begin lesson five. In this lesson the students will learn how to talk about things they like to do and don't like to do. They will also learn how to accept or turn down invitations. The quiz on lesson five will be the following week. Have a wonderful weekend! |
