Sixth Grade News

Reminder: There is no school for students on Monday, March 15.

In English, 6th grader students will start making a dictionary, using the ten words they invented.  The dictionary is due on Tuesday, March 30th.

In Math, will be devoted to geometry practice and review in preparation for a unit test on Tuesday, March 23. Topics will include identification of 2- and 3-dimensional figures, symmetry, transformations, tessellations, perimeter, area, surface area and geometric vocabulary.

In Social Studies, students will be working in groups to create a Colonial Newspaper that highlights the 3 regions they have been studying: New England, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. They will work to demonstrate their understanding of how these regions were similar and different, as well as what united and divided the 13 individual colonies. Newspapers will include Headline News, opinion pages, cartoons, classified ads, short biographies, puzzles, the weather, and more! 

In Science, 6th grade chemists will be working to unlock the identity of three mystery liquids with a lab partner.  During this investigation, students will focus on lab technique, safety skills, cooperation, data collection and analysis. Near the end of the week, these scientists will build upon their scientific vocabulary with the introduction of the terms, atoms and elements.

In French next week, we will finish lesson 5 with a quiz on Thursday.
Students should be reviewing the verbs and expressions from the lesson!
We will do our first "Dessin" at the end of the week, which includes writing a paragraph in French and doing an illustration to go along with it.
